Sijixin Community in SIP’s Jinji Lake Sub-district organized an event recently, integrating a Chinese Lantern Festival celebration with the “Learning from Lei Feng” volunteer service campaign. The event created a strong festive atmosphere, and brought heartwarming services closely to local residents.

A lantern riddle guessing activity was held, with over 100 riddles designed to impart knowledge on traditions, safety, environmental protection and laws. People who gave the right answers received gifts.

Diverse handy services, such as kitchen knife sharpening and consultancy on local policies, were offered on site, and brochures on waste sorting and safety guarantee in daily life were distributed.

A group of medics provided free medical services to the participants, checking eyes and teeth, offering traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis, testing blood pressure and glucose, and offering advice for health maintenance.

Traditional snacks such as sugar painting, Tanghulu (a traditional Chinese snack made out of fruits skewered on bamboo sticks that are coated in a crispy shell of sugar) and cotton candy attracted many children.

Community workers also gave tangyuan (stuffed small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour) to the elderly who live alone and security guards working at entrances of residential quarters.
