Haishang Community in SIP’s Jinji Lake Sub-district recently demonstrated a good practice of building a child-friendly community. Through three events, it has increased the participating children’s knowledge of the community, healthy lifestyles and environment, and enhanced their willingness to participate in the community’s management and development.

In the first event on Feb 9, the children shared their knowledge of the community, offered suggestions for its improvement, and created pictures to portray their “ideal community”.

The second event on Feb 11 focused on healthy living. Through an experiment and discussions on dietary traps, the children learned about the harm of additives in various products, and shared their ideas on healthy diets. They also designed “balanced healthy meals” using magnetic jigsaw pieces.

In the event on Feb 26, the children raced in waste sorting games, discussed creative ways of reusing recycled materials, and transformed used paper bags, clothing and plastic bottles into useful items such as tissue boxes, shopping bags and vases for flowers. In this process, they experienced the joy of “turning waste into treasure”.
